A wonderful mid-century Swedish painting by Svän Grandin, depicting a group of figures gathered around a market stall or harbour-side scene.Grandin’s simplified, expressive figures are painted in a lovely palette of powder blue, lilac, coral, yellow and deep green, creating a wonderfully graphic yet warm composition. The loosely painted forms and strong blocks of colour give the work a distinctly modern Scandinavian feel.
Born in Borås, Grandin was largely self-taught and is known for his figurative paintings and landscapes. His work is represented in the collection of Borås Art Museum.
